The first lab-grown meat produced in space was achieved by Aleph Farms (Israel) on the International Space Station, in 2019.
The Israeli food technology startup was able to produce the meat from Bovine cells harvested on Earth. The cells were then grown into muscle tissue using a 3D printer, meaning the meat was not only grown 248 miles (399 km) from Earth, but was also slaughter free.
Aleph Farms collaborated with the Russian company 3D Bioprinting Solutions and two U.S.-based food companies to test this method in space.
