The oldest person to cross the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim-to-rim on foot is 85 years 113 days and was achieved by F.Dale Sanders (USA, b. 14 June 1935) in Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona, USA, on 5 October 2020.

F.Dale always been inspired by Guinness World Records. "As a young man, living far back in the woods of Kentucky, on my parents tobacco farm, I truly believe the “Guinness Book of Records” was the only book I dutifully read after high school. That was over 70 years ago. Inspirations I felt while reading about others records, inspired me significantly improving my chances of success. Thinking that maybe someday I will have my name writing in Guinness Books of Records was a bid deal for us kids. And still Guinness World Records is deeply imbedded in my heart today. Now, I hope to give back, to our younger generation, some of the enthusiasm I experienced because of that book. Now, as an older man, getting this title means a lot more than I can effectively put into words." F.Dale has always been intrigued by the Grand Canyon. "The hike really inspired most that follow my adventures. What surprises me most, is when I often hear - “I want to be just like you when I retire”. Looks like the human race is ripe, seeking out ways to prepare for old age. They are ripe to identify with older adventurers. They are ripe to find someone older, they want to be just like when they “grow up”. They are ripe in giving praise to older people that accomplish physically difficult challenges. and they are ripe to figuring out how to enjoy an active life after 80. F.Dale claims not have have suffered any challenges on his hike. "Well, having said that, the third day hiking from Cottonwood Campground to the North Rim and back to Cottonwood was a BIG challenge. Going up, we gained right at a vertical mile in altitude. Yes, that was my most challenging day in the canyon. Hard for any age. But, with the right attitude, being cheered along by followers and with social media coverage / post I was able to keep my spirits up." Living happily, living actively, living spiritually and eat smaller quantiles and varieties or good quality foods are F.Dale's tips for a long and healthy life. " Average day for me is start early, eat a healthy breakfast and immediately after breakfast start doing something I like. Usually something pending needing attention. I have found this approach works for me. It might mean cleaning out a bothersome closet, paying an annoying bill, reading my Face Book post and so on. Doing something rewarding, like fixing a leaking faucet, works wonders. But most important — just do it."
