Two family bakeries teamed up to make a delicious treat, creating the longest covered brownie.

Cochin Bakery and Brownnies Bakery unveiled the lengthy brownie measuring 223.16 m (732 ft 1 in) in a football stadium in Kerala, India on 26 March.

Both bakeries have a rich and humble history, being founded all the way back in the 1880s.

The pair pride themselves on being ‘cake experts’ with baking and crafting a number of cakes on a day-to-day basis, and wanted to test themselves with a record featuring their signature products, the brownie.

The record-breaking story first began back in September 2022, the bakeries had both done lengthy cakes in the past and wanted to attempt a record title.

On the day of the attempt, the venue had to be revamped into something more hospitable to house the brownie.

This was particularly difficult as due to the heat, meaning the temperature had to be controlled to stop the brownie melting.

To avoid this, the venue was centralized with air conditioning and there was no contact with the outside temperature.

The setting up of the venue took almost 10 days and involved multiple inspections.

And the brownie itself took an entire day to create.

It was made from pure ingredients, with artificial ones avoided, and the flavour was a classic chocolate brownie topped with melted chocolate and cashews.

To pay homage to their long history, framed pictures of notable people from both bakeries were placed onto the brownie.

For this attempt, the record was not based off only one long brownie, but a succession of multiple brownies fused together with icing.

After the brownie was measured and verified by Adjudicator Rishi Nath, the Guinness World Records certificate was awarded.

As Guinness World Records guidelines stipulate that food cannot be wasted, the entire brownie was given to members of the public.

The brownie was so popular that the organizers had to maintain a queue system and cake boxes were arranged for eager spectators to have a taste of the record-breaking brownie.

Even Rishi had a taste and agreed it was "rather nice".
