Leah Shutkever (UK) and Mike Jack (Canada) are two of the most prolific record-breaking speed eaters in the world.
Mike aka “The Vegan Vacuum” is especially good at consuming veggies and spicy stuff, whilst Leah is an all-rounder with records for eating jam doughnuts, pickled eggs, sausages, and much more.
They both recently joined us at our London HQ to go head-to-head against each other in a variety of speed eating challenges, in addition to attempting some records individually.
Leah beat Mike in two head-to-head challenges, breaking records for the fastest time to eat a head of lettuce (46.53 seconds) and the most vegan nuggets eaten in one minute (350 grams).
Leah’s lettuce-eating speed was remarkable – she halved the previous record of 1 minute 31 seconds, which was set by Mike in 2021. Mike pushed himself to his limits trying to keep up, which resulted in him throwing up and losing his record. “If anybody’s gonna take it, I’m glad it’s you,” he said to Leah afterwards.
And given that Leah already holds the record for the most chicken nuggets eaten in one minute, it’s no surprise that she also claimed the newly created vegan nuggets record. Leah ate her nuggets so quickly that Mike still had around half his bowl left when she’d finished.
The other head-to-head record attempt they did was for the fastest time to drink a Capri Sun with a paper straw, however, neither of them were successful.
Leah initially struggled to insert the paper straw into the pouch, and they both had too much liquid remaining at the end for their attempts to be valid. This newly created record title remains without a holder, while the traditional, plastic straw version of the record stands at 8.2 seconds, achieved by Fayisnazer Fayis (India) earlier this year.
Despite failing the Capri Sun record, Mike managed to break two other drinking records: the fastest time to drink a bottle of hot sauce (8.56 seconds) and the fastest time to drink one litre of tomato sauce (1 minute 5.56 seconds).
Using a metal straw, Mike consumed the entire 115-gram bottle of hot sauce in just 8.56 seconds, smashing the 40-second time limit which was put in place for this newly created record title.
He also used a metal straw to drink the litre of tomato sauce, forcefully slurping it down to narrowly beat the previous record by 0.14 seconds.
Leah didn’t attempt the sauce-drinking records, but she did break three more speed eating ones:
- Fastest time to eat a muffin – 15.25 seconds
- Fastest time to eat a bowl of pasta – 17.03 seconds
- Fastest time to eat 500 grams of mozzarella – 1 minute 2.34 seconds
She beat the muffin-munching record by almost three seconds, and she incredibly shaved almost 10 seconds off the pasta record.
However, her mozzarella record attempt was perhaps the most impressive of the day. Leah shoved two quarter-kilo blocks of the soft cheese down her throat in just 1 minute 2.34 seconds, smashing the previous record of 1 minute 34.44 seconds set by serial-record-breaker Ashrita Furman (USA) in 2016.
In total, Mike broke two world records and Leah achieved five.
“Seeing Mike and Leah smash some record times made it difficult not to express my shock at what was essentially a magic trick as [the food] just disappeared,” said Official Adjudicator William Sinden.
Mike now has five Guinness World Records titles and Leah has a whopping 24, and they’ve no intention of stopping here. What will they eat next?
