With all eyes on Liverpool this weekend as the Eurovision Song Contest rolls into town, the world’s longest running annual TV music competition (international) promises to deliver.

Eurovision celebrates its 67th anniversary on Saturday, as the best acts perform to a live crowd and a TV audience of millions.

But are there any records that could be achieved during the 2023 edition?

Sweden's Loreen

The most successful Eurovision country is currently Ireland, but they will not be extending their record in 2023.

Their entry Wild Youth failed to get through the first semi-final on Tuesday with their song “We Are One” and will not be plying for their country's eighth title on Saturday night.

However, Sweden could become joint-record holders with the Irish and have a very strong chance of doing so, if the pre-contest betting odds are to be believed.

Loreen, who previously won the contest back in 2012, will be performing her song “Tattoo”.

Ireland actually haven’t won the contest since 1996, and got their first win in 1970 – meaning all seven wins came in a relatively short period of just 26 years.

Sweden’s wins are a little more spread out than Ireland’s, with their last being performed by the aforementioned Loreen in 2012. Their first win came back in 1974 from a little-known band called ABBA – whatever happened to them?

UK's Mae Muller

It will take some performance to beat the record for the most points scored at Eurovision – the 758 points scored by Portuguese singer Salvador Sobral in 2017 included 30 maximum scores of 12 points.

And it looks as though Denmark’s record for having the oldest Eurovision contest winner is safe for another year, too.

Jorgan Olson, who alongside his brother Niels won the contest for Denmark in 2009, was 49 at the time. And while some contestants taking part this year are older, they aren't expected to win.

We’re looking forward to the finals, and if you’re a massive Eurovision stan, we do have a record title for most Eurovision Song Contest song titles identified from the track in one minute but no current holder… Could it be you?
