The Highest marathon took place on Ojos del Salado, the highest volcano on Earth, where participants began the marathon from the 6,893 m summit after an 11.5-hour ascent in extreme conditions, 100 km/h winds and -30°C wind chill. The five runners then completed a continuous 43 km descent across high-altitude volcanic terrain to Laguna Verde.
