The tallest structure ever destroyed or demolished was the Warszawa Radio Mast in Konstantynow, Poland. When it was completed in 1974, it was the world's tallest man-made structure. It collapsed on 8 August 1991 while a construction crew were exchanging a guy wire. It was 646.38 m (2,120 ft 8 in) tall.
The guyed Warszawa Radio mast was located in Konstantynow, 96 km (60 miles) north-west of the Polish capital Kraków. The mast was completed on 18 July 1974 and put into operation on 22 July 1974. It was designed by Jan Polak and weighed 550 tonnes. After 1991 it was described by the Poles as `the world's longest tower'.
