Harry Hong of Los Angeles, California, USA, became the first person to earn the maximum score of 999,999 on the NES version of Tetris. The record was achieved on 19 April 2009 and took Harry an astounding four years of practice to amass the perfect score. Speaking to Twin Galaxies, he reflected on the moment when he finally froze the pointscounter at the 999,999 mark: “It was such an adrenaline rush to say the least… I only had a small number of lines left to get the maximum score and I was fortunate enough to get the right pieces to get the job done.”
