The ostrich has the longest legs of any living bird, but the bird with the longest legs relative to its body size is the black-winged stilt (Himantopus himantopus), widely distributed across much of Europe, as well as Africa and Asia. Its long pink legs measure 17-24 cm (7-9 in), which is up to 60 per cent of its total 35-40 cm (14-16 in) body length.
