The launch Pike was built in 1899 and restored in 1997 and was fitted with a battery powered electric motor the attempt lasted 30 hours on the River Thames between Wallingford, Oxfordshire, and Goring, Berkshire, UK, between 20 and 21 August 2001. The journey was made on a single charge of the batteries and was non-stop and the attempt was conducted a circuit up and down the river to counter the effects of the current.
