As of March 2014, the largest soccer venue by capacity is the Rungrado May Day Stadium (aka the 1st of May Stadium) in Pyongyang, North Korea, with a current capacity of 150,000. Opened in 1989, the main performance area of 22,500 m² is encircled by eight storeys of spectator seating, covered by 16 arched, petal-like roof sections.
The stadium has also been used for the Arirang Festival of gymnastics and arts, athletics events and political rallies.
