The most “TIME Person of the Year” titles awarded to an individual female by TIME Magazine is two, achieved by singer-songwriter Taylor Swift (USA) in 2017 and 2023.

In 2017, when Swift was first named “Person of the Year”, she was part of a group that the magazine dubbed the "Silence Breakers". They were praised “for standing up and speaking out against [the] discrimination, harassment, and assault” faced by women.

In 2023, however, Swift was the sole recipient of the accolade. TIME chose the singer-songwriter because of the immense success she'd had that year, breaking multiple records with her musical releases and Eras Tour. The "Karma"-singer was also commended for making a significant impact on society, after she encouraged thousands of her fans to register to vote.

The most “TIME Person of the Year” titles awarded to an individual male, meanwhile, is three, achieved by US President Franklin D Roosevelt in 1932, 1934 and 1941.

Each year, TIME's editors choose who will be awarded the iconic title. They pick the “individual, group, or concept that has had the most influence on the world" in the preceding 12 months”.
