The most World Taekwondo Championship titles by a female athlete is 3, achieved by Jung Myoung-sook (South Korea) at heavyweight in 1993, 1995 and 1997; Cho Hyang-mi (South Korea) in 1995 and 1997 at welterweight and 1999 at lightweight; Brigitte Yagüe (Spain) in 2003 at finweight and in 2007 and 2009 at flyweight; and Bianca Walkden (UK) at heavyweight in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
Walkden equalled the record with a controversial victory at the 2019 World Taekwondo Championships, forcing her opponent Shuyin Zheng into a series of penalties that resulted in her disqualification.
