Garfield, created by Jim Davis (USA) and circulated by Universal Press Syndicate, is the world's most syndicated comic strip, appearing in some 2,100 journals in 80 countries, as of 2015. It was first published in the USA in June 1978, printed in just 41 publications. Owing to a general decline in the newspapers sector, the number of journals Garfield appears in has reduced from 2,570 in 2001 and 2,310 in 2009, but it nevertheless remains the most syndicated strip. It's estimated that today it is still read by some 200 million people.
