On 15 December 2020, Geoff Wilson (Australia) summitted Dome Argus, the highest point on the Antarctic Plateau, at 4,093 m (13,428 ft) above sea level.

He achieved this unprecedented feat as part of a 58-day expedition that represents the longest unsupported unmotorized polar journey - 5,179 kilometres (3,218 miles). Wilson snowkited from Thor's Hammer to Novolazarevskaya Station, between 9 November 2019 and 7 January 2020. His journey went via the Point of Inaccessibility - the farthest point from any of the continent's coasts - the South Pole and Dome Argus.

Previously, the only summits had been made via aircraft landing on the peak.

Dome Argus experiences some of the lowest naturally occurring temperatures on Earth, ranging from temperatures ranging from -35°C to -90°C (-31°F to 130°F).
