The first electric powered wingsuit flight was achieved by BMW Designworks and Peter Salzmann (Austria), in December 2020.

Air sports expert Peter Salzmann was dropped by helicopter at around 10,000 ft over the Austrian mountains alongside two other fliers in conventional wingsuits. During the flight he reached reported speeds of up to 186 mph (299 km/h).

The wingsuit is built upon BMW i EV technology and powered by a chest-mounted rig. It offers 15 kW of grunt split between two 7.5 kW carbon impellers, which spin at a speed of 25,000 rpm and produce thrust for up to five minutes.

The wingsuit was revealed as part of BMW’s #NEXTGen 2020 event.
