The largest drone synthesizer consists of 1000 analogue oscillators and was achieved by Sam Battle aka LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER (United Kingdom) in Ramsgate, Kent, United Kingdom on 25 September 2020.
The machine is known as the 1000 OSCILLATOR MEGADRONE and had a few years planning and building behind it. Sam started by making a 100 oscillator test bed in 2018, and in 2020 spent 3 months building the MEGADRONE.
The oscillators were plugged into 100 banks of 10 and mixed together into a single output, tuned to play the same note.
