The highest altitude reached by a hovercraft was&#160; 4,983 m (16,050 ft) reached by <em>Neste Enterprise</em> and her crew of ten at the navigable source of China's Yangtze River on&#160;11 June 1990. Operating hovercraft at such altitudes is problematic both because of the&#160;challenging terrain and the thin air, which makes hovering more difficult.<br />
