While there have been a surprising number of games that allow players to quest as animals, and at least a couple of them from a canine perspective, Wolf (Sanctuary Woods, 1994) was the first game to feature a wolf as the lead protagonist. The life simulation and role-playing video game thrust players into the skin of a wolf that must survive in the wilderness, or die. Viewed form a top-down, isometric perspective, players had to eat, drink and avoid humans if they were to help their wolf counterpart survive. Wolf was followed by a similar game, Lion, in 1995.
