Sonic Blast Man (Taito, 1990) encouraged players to wear boxing gloves and punch a mechanical pad controller as they made their way through the game's enemies. The aim was to hit it hard enough to damage the virtual opponents, but the game had to be recalled in 1995 following reports of players becoming injured during play. It emerged that there had been some 70 cases of wrists or arms being fractured or injured over four years. Taito paid a civil penalty of $50,000 for failing to file incident reports of those cases.
