In mid-September 2017, Pimax (CHN) launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their new "8K" high field-of-view (FOV) virtual-reality headset. By the time the campaign closed, on 3 November 2017, they had raised $4,236,618 (£3,216,530). Their initial goal had been $200,000.
The headset allows users to experience peripheral vision. It also counteracts unpleasant sensations of motion sickness and "screen-door effect" (when the viewer can see the lines separating pixels in an image on a screen).
This surpasses the $2,437,429 (£1,507,530) Oculus managed to raise on Kickstarter for the first-generation Oculus Rift between and 1 August and 1 September 2012.
