The longest hand-made textile braid is 1,891.66 m (6,205.27 ft), achieved by Hiddekel Burks (USA) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, on 3 June 2021.

Hiddekel (71 when she began the attempt) had undergone multiple eye surgeries, resulting in an unplanned end to her 49-year nursing career. To overcome fears of her visual limitations and lifestyle adjustments, she would use the art of braiding as a means to put her mind at ease and focus on the positive sides of her life. She has celebrated and taught braiding for multiple decades and has created multiple large-scale braids over the years.

Hiddekel braided yarn to form a long cornrow hair design. The attempt was organised to celebrate braiding as one of the oldest hair styling techniques known to mankind.

She used different colours in a three-strand braid as a way of dedicating the braid to different individuals who had popularised natural and braided hairstyles, such as Whoopi Goldberg, Cecily Tyson and Stevie Wonder.
