British-born artist Neil Harbisson, who is totally colour blind and can only see in black and white, has an antenna called an "eyeborg" implanted in the back of his skull that allows him to "see" colour. The antenna is attached to a camera in front of his eyes that converts light waves into sound waves that Harbisson can hear as musical notes. He wears the eyeborg at all times, even in his official UK passport photograph, making him the first officially recognized cyborg. The passport authority initially refused to allow the photo, but eventually decided that Harbisson was officially part-technology, part human, and that his passport photo should feature his antenna and camera as part of his identity.
