The speed record was ratified by the World Sailing Speed Record Council.

Sharp beat the existing monohull time of 12 hours 1 minute 31 seconds set by Jean Luc Van Den Heede (France) in November 2004 on the 85-foot monohull Adrien with an average speed of 11.5 knots.
