The fastest circumnavigation swim around Easter Island (Rapa Nui) is 19 hours 8 minutes over 63.5 kilometres (39.4 miles), achieved by Sarah Ferguson (South Africa) on 15–16 March 2019. Ferguson is the first person to swim this route. The swim was ratified by the Marathon Swimmers Federation.


Ferguson's swim started at 8:07 on 15 March 2019 and ended at 3:15 the following morning, starting and ending at Hanga Roa beach. The swim was part of Swim Against Plastic, a global campaign to help end plastic pollution in association with Plastic Oceans International and Breathe Conservation.

During the course of the swim, Ferguson received three jellyfish stings!
