NHK's Nodo Jiman was originally broadcast over the radio on 19 January 1946 but wouldn't appear on TV until seven years later.

The format of the show is a travelling contest in which local amateur singers from a particular city/region are given a chance to perform. They are rated on their performance and given advice by industry experts before the winner is announced at the end of each programme.
