The five movies thus far based on the Transformers toy franchise have grossed a total of $3,778,297,170 (£2.42 billion) worldwide, as of 19 September 2015, according to The Numbers. These include four movies directed by Michael Bay (2007, 2009, 2011, 2014) and one animated spin-off feature-film released in 1986, based on the original TV series. The most successful of these in terms of box office sales is Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2013) which alone grossed $1,123,790,543.
The 1986 animated movie featured voices by many famous actors, including Eric Idle, Leonard Nimoy and Orson Welles; it was the latter's final role before he died in 1985, the year before the movie's release.
