Seven-year-old Zora Ball, of Philadelphia, USA, is the youngest person to develop a full working version of a mobile videogame application. The game, which was written in an open-source programming language called Racket, involves a ballerina who is searching for a jewel in a nail salon while attempting to avoid a vampire. She built it as part of a class focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics at Harambee Institute of Science and Technology Charter School. The game was unveiled at the Foundation for the Advancement of Technology in Education’s Bootstrap Expo, held at the University of Pennsylvania, in February 2013. Some sceptics at the Bootstrap Expo had suggested that it was her older brother who had in fact written the app, but she proved them wrong by reprogramming parts of it in front of them.
