On 4 June 1784, early aviator Monsieur Fleurant (FRA) piloted a balloon carrying the first ever female passenger: Madame Élisabeth Thible (FRA). The balloon – named "Le Gustave" in honour of King Gustav III of Sweden who witnessed the event from the ground – took off in Lyon, France, and reached an altitude of some 1,500 metres. The ballooning demonstration lasted for some 45 minutes. The balloon had an envelope volume of 4,000 cubic metres.
