Playable in every version of Counter-Strike, Dust (also known by its filename, de_dust) is one of the oldest maps in the game, and is its most-played. Players have spent countless millions of hours running through this series of enclosed spaces that designer Dave Johnston originally laid out in 1999, and it's still hugely popular today. Then just 16, Johnston based Dust's Middle Eastern theme on screenshots of an ultimately unused map Valve Software was building for an early version of Team Fortress 2, using them as the basis of a looping figure of eight of tunnels, walkways and gateways that provide captivating strategic variety.
