PSY's "Gangnam Style" became the first video of any kind to receive 1 billion views online, with 1,000,382,639 views on YouTube as of 21 December 2012.

As of January 2013, "Gangnam Style" was also the most “liked” video on YouTube and the most viewed video online of any kind. It overtook the previous most viewed video online – "Baby" by Justin Bieber 24 November 2012.

The South Korean dance track was first posted online in July 2012.

PSY (aka Park Jae-Sang) is the South Korean pop/rap superstar who took the world by storm in 2012 with his infectious, chart-topping single “Gangnam Style” and its associated, and much parodied, “invisible horse” dance routine.

On 21 December 2012, 159 days after the video was first uploaded to YouTube, “Gangnam Style” became the first video of any kind to register one billion views on the popular video-sharing website. The four-minute clip, showing the bespectacled rapper “galloping” in various locations, had attracted 1,344,236,848 views and 7,064,671 “likes” as of 22 February 2013 - the day another landmark was reached when the video’s viewer count cantered past the population of China (1,343,239,923, according to July 2012 estimates provided by the CIA World Factbook) - the country with the highest population.
