Unlike tornadoes, which are formed by supercell storms, dust devils form from the ground upwards in sunny conditions. There are only two recorded incidents of fatalities caused by dust devils. The first occurred on 19 May 2003, when a dust devil caused a house to collapse in Lebanon, Maine, USA, resulting in the death of one man. The second happened on 18 June 2008, when a dust devil caused a shed to collapse near Casper, Wyoming, USA, resulting in the death of one woman.
