Cabot Creamery Cooperative is turning an old adage on its head: if at first you do succeed, try, try again.

For a third time in its history, Cabot broke a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® mark, creating the largest smoothie at Bike Expo New York on May 3. And they did it in colossal fashion, with the record-setting beverage clocking in at a massive 400 US gallons, or 1,514.15 liters.

“I’m so proud of everyone on our team who helped us set a new Guinness World Records record,” said Cabot’s New York Market Manager and team leader, Karen Houchens. “It was a great team effort led by our farmers and staff, and when it was all over we were exhausted but happy that we were able to raise more than $6,000 in cash and product donations for Food Bank For New York City.”

The gigantic smoothie required more than 3,200 fresh bananas, one ton of ice, and nearly 1,000 pounds of yogurt, with the choice being Cabot Lowfat Vanilla Bean Greek-Style Yogurt.

Throughout the course of the record-setting event, the public was invited to pitch in by riding a human-powered bicycle blender to make smoothies over the course of the seven-hour process.

Serving as its third-ever record, the smoothie followed up its Cabot predecessors and world record holders for the largest grilled sandwich (320 lb/145 kg) set on November 4, 2000, in Everglades City, FL, and largest macaroni and cheese (2,469 lb/1,120 kg), set in 2010 in New Orleans.

Once the record was established and the official certificate presented by Guinness World Records adjudicator Morgan Wilber, the smoothie was distributed to event attendees in commemorative "World’s Largest sMOOthie" cups for a suggested one-dollar donation to Food Bank For New York City.

"We could not think of a better or more fun way to support the critical mission of Food Bank For New York City than to tie our fundraising activities to a Guinness World Records attempt," said Bob Schiers, National Public Relations Manager for Cabot Creamery Cooperative. "By creating the world's largest smoothie at the Bike Expo in New York City and having an adjudicator on-hand to verify the record setting attempt, we were able to generate tens of thousands of dollars in media coverage and generate more than 75 million gross impressions worldwide for the Cabot brand, Food Bank For New York City, and Bike Expo New York.

"Guinness World Records is the gold standard for record setting endeavors and we are always thrilled to work with their team when we set out to do good things for charity."
