MSC Cruises crew builds fleet of 1,300 LEGO ships in record-breaking display on deck

MSC Cruises has made history once again, celebrating the launch of its latest flagship, MSC World America, by setting a new Guinness World Records title for assembling the longest line of LEGO® ships.
The record-breaking attempt took place during MSC World America’s voyage from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, where the vessel has been under construction for the past three years, to its new homeport in Miami, Florida. This milestone comes just ahead of the ship’s official naming ceremony on 9 April at the state-of-the-art MSC Miami Cruise Terminal. The flagship will then set sail for its inaugural Caribbean season on 12 April.
Led by MSC World America’s Captain, Master Dino Sagani, a dedicated team of 1,500 crew members meticulously assembled and aligned 1,391 LEGO® ships along the ship's deck, creating an eye-catching display stretching an impressive 89.02 meters. This extraordinary feat was completed after around 116 hours of building time, and the ships were lined up under the watchful eye of an official Guinness World Records Adjudicator, ensuring all guidelines were met.
The achievement underscores MSC Cruises' strong partnerships with both LEGO® and Guinness World Records. In 2023, MSC Cruises introduced its Guinness World Records entertainment programme, giving guests the chance to attempt and break official records at sea. Since its launch, the programme has seen an incredible 43 records shattered by enthusiastic guests and crew.
By May, the programme will be available on 16 ships and will roll out fleetwide by the end of the year. Participants have taken on challenges ranging from pulling 100 metres of rope in record time to completing 20 chair rotations in under 21 seconds.
To commemorate their efforts, every MSC Cruises crew member who contributed to the record-breaking attempt received an official Guinness World Records certificate, along with one of the LEGO® ships as a keepsake.
As a family-owned company, MSC Cruises is renowned for its award-winning family entertainment and long-standing collaboration with LEGO®. Across its fleet, the cruise line offers an array of LEGO® activities, and the partnership is reaching new heights aboard MSC World America. Guests can look forward to the first-ever LEGO®-themed parade at sea, the exciting LEGO® Family Game Show, and a dedicated master builder area designed for creative fun.
