Discover the world records still held by Avengers: Endgame as the film returns to cinemas
Marvel fans, assemble! Avengers: Endgame is now back on the big screens, seven years after its original release.
This time, it’s equipped with a brand-new post-credits sequence that will serve as a teaser for what’s to come in Avengers: Doomsday, out on 18 December.
Doomsday will see the Avengers join forces with the Wakandans, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the original X-Men.
As a result, the upcoming film boasts a star-studded cast, led by Chris Evans (Captain America) and Robert Downey Jr (Doctor Doom).
Some of the cast even hold their own GWR titles, such as American actress Zoe Saldaña (Gamora) who is the highest-grossing actress at global box office (leading roles). As of 26 January, the 18 movies in which she had played a lead role had taken $15,615,919,486 (£11.42 billion) worldwide, according to The Numbers.
As soon as Avengers: Endgame hit the cinemas in April 2019, it also entered the record books for having the longest running time for a theatrical cut of a superhero movie.
The Russo-brothers-directed blockbuster has a duration of 3 hr 1 min – or 181 min!
Given that Avengers: Endgame Encore is a special cut of the 2019 film, it has not seized this title. Although, it does have a longer running time of 3 hr 5 min.
Endgame set its second world record by logging the highest box-office gross in a single day on 26 April 2019.
It made $157,461,641 (£122 million) from first-day viewings in the US alone!
Comprising sales from 4,662 cinemas, this one-day gross hurtled past the previous mark of $119,119,282 (£79 million), achieved by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015.

Avengers: Endgame then scored a hattrick with the fastest time for a movie to gross $1 billion.
The superhero smash-hit surpassed the 10-figure mark in just five days, which is more than twice as fast as it took for Avengers: Infinity War (11 days).
Following close behind is this year’s Spider Man: Brand New Day, with a total of six days.
The anticipation surrounding Endgame was monumental and it is still reflected in our box office records today.
As of 28 April 2019, the fourth film in the Avengers franchise had achieved the highest-grossing opening weekend at the global box office, after taking $1,195,000,000 (£924 million).
With approximately 45% of this figure being made from 3D viewings, Endgame also clinched the highest-grossing opening weekend for a 3D movie at the global box office: $540,000,000 (£417 million).
By October 2021, Endgame was still proving to be a hit, becoming the highest-grossing Disney film and movie sequel overall with an improved gross of $2,797,800,564 (£2 billion).
The question now is: will Doomsday take these titles? Or are they already endgame?
