V from BTS at Butter release

Kim Taehyung (Republic of Korea), otherwise known as ‘V’, is one-seventh of the powerhouse that is BTS.

On 6 December 2021, all the BTS bandmates set their Instagram accounts to public for the first time and started to instantly rack up followers.

But V in particular led the charge in terms of follower count, breaking the record for the fastest time to reach 1 million followers on Instagram in just 43 minutes.

However, his record-breaking streak didn’t end there.

The quick work of the ARMY led to his followers jumping up to 10 million after just 4 hours 52 minutes, breaking the record for the fastest time to reach 10 million followers on Instagram.

Although V was the one to break the records, all members of the septet - V, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook - now have over 20 million followers each.

The record for the fastest time to reach 1 million followers on Instagram often changes hands as new celebs join the platform.

It has already been broken this year by TAEIL MOON from boyband NCT, and former holders of the title include Rupert Grint and Jennifer Aniston

Although these are the first records achieved by V alone this year, it’s not the first record that BTS have broken in 2021.

BTS’ single "Butter" broke five world records across YouTube and Spotify after its release on 21 May 2021, including:

  • Most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours (108,200,000 views)
  • Most streamed track on Spotify in the first 24 hours (11,042,335 global streams)

Due to the band’s plethora of records and their undeniable impact on popular music and culture, they have also earned a coveted spot in the Guinness World Records 2022 Hall of Fame

They have a double-page spread in the Guinness World Records 2022 book that details all their record-breaking achievements to date – though we’re sure there are many, many more to come.
