TAEIL MOON, a member of South Korean boyband NCT, has broken the record for the fastest time to reach 1 million followers on Instagram.

His account, mo.on_air, was first announced on the app bubble before fans flocked to Instagram to follow TAEIL – he reached seven digits worth of followers in just one hour and 45 minutes after his first post.

He currently follows seven other accounts, all of which are fellow NCT bandmates.

Thank you to all the fans! I was so surprised when I heard the news! I never imagined myself becoming a Guinness World Records title holder, and am truly grateful for all the love and support. I would not be here without my members and our NCTzens. I’ll try my best to connect and communicate even more through socials. I love you all! - TAEIL MOON

After debuting as a member of the worldwide group NCT in 2016, TAEIL is now also part of the NCT U and NCT 127 sub-units.

NCT 127’s second full-length album NCT #127 Neo Zone, released in March 2020, remained on Billboard 200 for ten weeks after entering the Top 5, while NCT’s second full-length album RESONANCE, released in October of the same year, set record as double million seller.

As of 2021, the band contains 23 members that have released 7 studio albums, with two reaching the top 10 of the Billboard 200 in the United States.

Some of the sub-groups of NCT are location based: NCT 127 is based in Seoul, whereas WayV is based in China and a fifth sub-group called NCT-Hollywood is set to be based in the United States later this year.

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint previously set the record at four hours and one minute when he joined Instagram in November 2020 to announce the birth of his daughter.

Presenter and naturalist Sir David Attenborough held the record before Grint, and was 94 years old when he joined Instagram in September 2020. The account was created to raise awareness of climate change.

Before Sir David, the previous record holder was Friends star Jennifer Aniston, who joined the social media app in October 2019 and gained 1 million followers in five hours and 16 minutes.

Footballer David Beckham, Pope Francis and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have all also been record holders in this category.
