Calling all runners to Los Angeles!
Guinness World Records is collaborating with the Los Angeles Marathon presented by ASICS to provide runners with the opportunity to make next year's race their most memorable yet.
An official Guinness World Records adjudicator will be on-site at race on 8 March 2020 to confirm which participants have made history during their 26.2-mile run.
Starting at Dodger's Stadium, this scenic course will take record-attempting runners through major landmarks including Rodeo Drive, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Grauman's Chinese Theater, Santa Monica and more.
"We are thrilled to announce a new partnership with Guinness World Records for the 2020 Los Angeles Marathon. This is the entertainment capital of the world and partnering with Guinness World Records adds another element of entertainment and performance to the amazing experience that is the Stadium to Sea race course," said Steven Powell, Chief Commercial Officer of Conqur Endurance Group.
Runners can also bring additional awareness to the charity of their choice through their record attempt.
History-making hopefuls for the LA Marathon 2020 can attempt one of hundreds of marathon-related individual and team-based Guinness World Records titles including:
- Fastest marathon dressed as a lifeguard (male) (current record: 2:55:54)
- Fastest marathon dressed as a television character (female) (current record: 3:54:48)
- Fastest marathon wearing flip-flops (male) (current record: 03:42:29)
- Fastest marathon dressed as an emoji (female) (current record: 4:18:06)
- Fastest marathon in film character costume (female) (current record: 3:16:19)
Through the first partnership with the Los Angeles Marathon in 2017, eight Guinness World Records titles were achieved, including fastest marathon dressed as a three-dimensional bird and fastest marathon dressed as a fast food item.
After registering to participate in the race*, interested runners must complete a standard application ("Apply for a Record") via our "Break a Record at a Marathon" section in the press centre.
Attempt applications must be submitted to Guinness World Records prior to 6 p.m. PST on Monday 10 February 2020. Runners must register for the Los Angeles Marathon before applying to break a Guinness World Records title.
Los Angeles Marathon (Conqur Endurance Group) reserves the right to deny entry into the 2020 LA Marathon if the costume is deemed to be inappropriate or violate health and safety regulations.
