Hi, my name is Sonia Hull, and I'm here with my 14-year-old hen
0:06
She's defied all odds because most Easter egg or hens live an average of five to eight years
0:13
She has been through a lot in her long lifetime. She's had chicken pox because, yes, chickens do get chicken pox
0:21
A couple years ago, we moved her into the laundry room in my house
0:25
She does get to go back outside, but we don't stay out very long because in the Texas heat, she starts panting and it's really too hot for her, given her age
0:33
So this is where she lives in the laundry room. She is welcome to come out into the living room
0:38
She likes to watch TV when she hears it on. She gets fresh lettuce or spinach daily, scratched and crumbly in the crumbles
0:45
and a fruit and nut wheel with fresh water changed every day
0:49
And she loves to sleep with my flip-flop. The other animals in the house are a senior cat and a new kitten that's found in the parking lot
0:57
She doesn't seem to mind the other animals, and the kitten will sometimes sit with her

This is Pearl, and she wanted to say that she's excited to win the world's oldest chicken
