Guinness World Records Cymru: Welsh nationals break epic records to mark St David's Day
Happy St David’s Day!
The annual day of Wales is upon us once more, and to celebrate, Guinness World Records has again teamed up with Welsh language broadcaster S4C for a day of spectacular record breaking.
This time around, proud Welsh natives are taking on steam train pulls, showing off their trapeze skills, designing record-smashing clothing and typing a famously long place name with just one finger.
All the action is edited together in one epic TV show - Guinness World Records Cymru 2025 – with the aim of bringing attention to the beauty of the Welsh language.
So what can viewers expect from this year’s extravaganza?
Fastest time to pull a narrow-gauge steam train 20 m (female)
In an epic display of strength, three teams of amazing women each attempted the fastest time to pull a narrow-gauge steam train 20 m (female).

This was a new record title, with a minimum requirement of 45 seconds.
A difficult feat indeed, but these ladies were determined to make it happen.
Kirsty Robathan Smith and Rachel Davies were first to give it a go, coming in a bit too slow at 1 min 5.85 sec.
Susan Tracey and Abigail Caswell were up next, doing it in 58 sec.
Married couple Sam Taylor, who broke a record last year too, and Sue Taylor-Franklin were last to attempt the feat, doing it in 48.47 sec.

It still fell short of the minimum, but because they were closest, they were given a second chance.
The weather was not on their sides, with icy wind and rain setting in at this point, but they soldiered on despite the slippery conditions.
Having learned from their first go, the duo smashed the challenge in just 40.53 sec.
Sam and Sue have set a number of strength records together over the years.
Fastest time to type Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (one finger)
We honestly wouldn’t blame you if you just sort-of skipped over that really long word while reading that record title.
Pronouncing it correctly is an art!

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a village in Wales, and the name translates to ‘St Mary’s Church in the Hollow of the White Hazel near a Rapid Whirlpool and the Church of St Tysilio near the Red Cave’.
It was given that super long name as a publicity stunt to bring people to the village in the Victorian era of railway tourism.
Fast forward to the present day and S4C challenged people to type it out as fast as they could, using just one finger.
Ellyn Baker, who works at the National Botanic Gardens, came out victorious after numerous people took on the challenge.
The minimum was set at 18 sec and people trying their luck had no idea what time they’d achieved until the winner was announced at the end of the day.
Ellyn did it in just 15.33 sec.
Fun fact, did you know Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch also holds the record for longest word in a crossword?
Most flowers on a dress
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Marmalade brought her unique flair to the day by creating an iconic dress adorned with daffodils, the national flower of Wales.
With a total of 1,862 real flowers, her stunning design had the most flowers on a dress.

Marmalade made a huge impression on RuPaul during her stint on season 6 with her impeccable sewing skills and beautiful runway looks.
And now, her look is officially record breaking.
Most cupcakes iced/frosted in three minutes (individual)
Great British Bake Off contestant Michelle Evans-Fecci put her skills to the test when she attempted to ice as many cupcakes as humanly possible in just three minutes.
The author and baker had to beat a minimum of 35 to claim the record title.

And despite two of her cupcakes being disqualified from the count for having gaps in the icing where the cake was still visible, she managed an incredible 66.
Tasty!
The cupcakes were distributed around the Guinness World Records Cymru 2025 cast and crew afterwards – much to their delight.
Most twirls in a relay in one hour (team)
A group of adults with learning disabilities and autism put on their dancing shoes to see how many times they could twirl around in an hour.

The attempt was taken on by members of Arts Care Gofal Celf, a charitable arts organization in Wales promoting inclusive practice of high-quality community dance.
The organization’s sessions are free, and the twirlers were all part of its My Moves strand.
A total of 46 people took part in the relay, each putting their own ‘spin’ on a twirl move.
They absolutely smashed the minimum requirement of 250 with a total of 921.
Most ankle drops to stand on a swinging trapeze in one minute
Trapeze artist Eric McGill may originally hail from Canada, but he now calls Wales home and was proud to take on a challenge for St David’s Day.
And he was confident in setting a world record with his ‘ankle drop to stand’ skills.

The minimum was set to 10, and that’s exactly the number Eric kept achieving on his practice runs.
But when it came to the big day, he pushed himself to move faster, managing 11 with 10 seconds to spare, stopping there as his legs were too tired to carry on.
If you can’t quite picture the move, the trapeze swings back and forth while Eric stands upright on the bar.
He falls backwards and catches the bar with his feet so he’s left hanging upside down by the ankles before pulling himself up on top of the bar using the grip and power of the thighs to return to a standing position.
He repeats that over and over as many times as possible.
Longest duration suspended foot to foot trapeze hold (team of two)
Twin sisters Grace and Clementine Tonkin Wells teamed up to take on a trapeze challenge together.
For this move, one performer hangs upside down from the trapeze by their feet, while the second stands on the soles of the first’s feet, balancing without gripping on to the ropes of the trapeze.

The minimum was set at 60 seconds, and the sisters were going for around 2 min 30 sec during their rehearsals.
They asked Guinness World Records Adjudicator Joanne Brent, who oversaw all the St David’s Day challenges, to let them know every time 30 seconds had passed by.
But they surpassed what they thought they were capable of, going for a full 5 min to secure the record.
One thing is for sure – it’s going to be a brilliant show full of Welsh pride!
Guinness World Records Cymru 2025 airs on S4C.

Amser byrraf i dîm o ddwy lusgo tren stêm 20 metr ar reilffordd gul
Mewn arddangosfa epig o gryfder, ceisiodd tri thîm o ferched anhygoel dorri’r record am yr amser byrraf i dîm o ddwy lusgo tren stêm 20 metr ar reilffordd gul.
Roedd hon yn record newydd, ac roedd yn rhaid llwyddo mewn llai na 45 eiliad.
Camp anodd yn wir, ond roedd y merched yma’n benderfynol o lwyddo.
Kirsty Robathan Smith a Rachel Davies oedd y cyntaf i roi cynnig arni, gan orffen ychydig yn rhy araf, mewn 1 munud 5.85 eiliad.
Susan Tracey ac Abigail Caswell oedd nesaf, gan ei gwblhau’r dasg mewn 58 eiliad.
Y cwpl priod Sam Taylor, a dorrodd record y llynedd hefyd, a Sue Taylor-Franklin oedd yr olaf i roi cynnig ar y gamp, gan lwyddo mewn 48.47 eiliad.
Roedden nhw’n dal i fod dros yr amser a ganiatawyd, ond am mai nhw oedd agosaf, cafodd y pâr ail gyfle.
Doedd y tywydd ddim o’u plaid, gyda gwynt a glaw rhewllyd yn gwneud popeth yn anodd, ond ymlaen â nhw er gwaethaf yr amodau llithrig.
Ar ôl dysgu o'u hymgais gyntaf, fe chwalodd y ddwy yr her mewn dim ond 40.53 eiliad.
Mae Sam a Sue wedi gosod nifer o recordiau cryfder gyda'i gilydd dros y blynyddoedd.
Yr amser byrraf i deipio Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (gydag un bys)
Fydden ni wir ddim yn eich beio am neidio dros y gair hir iawn yna wrth ddarllen teitl y record hon.
Pentref yng Ngogledd Cymru yw Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, a’i ystyr yw 'Eglwys y Santes Fair yng nghysgod y Gollen Wen ger y Trobwll Chwyrn ac Eglwys Sant Tysilio ger yr Ogof Goch'.
Rhoddwyd yr enw rhyfeddol o hir hwn ar y pentref fel cyhoeddusrwydd er mwyn denu twristiaid i'r pentref ar y rheilffordd, yn oes Fictoria.
Ond ymlaen i heddiw ac fe roddodd S4C her i bobl deipio’r enw mor gyflym ag y gallen nhw, gan ddefnyddio dim ond un bys.
Ellyn Baker, sy'n gweithio yn y Gerddi Botaneg Cenedlaethol, fu’n fuddugol ar ôl i nifer o bobl ymgymryd â'r her.
Roedd yn rhaid cyflawni’r dasg hon o fewn 18 eiliad a doedd gan y bobl a ymgeisiodd ddim syniad beth oedd eu hamser nes i'r enillydd gael ei gyhoeddi ar ddiwedd y dydd.
Llwyddodd Ellyn mewn dim ond 15.33 eiliad.
Oeddech chi'n gwybod bod Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch hefyd yn dal y record am y gair hiraf mewn croesair?
Nifer mwyaf o flodau ar ffrog
Daeth Marmalade, seren RuPaul's Drag Race UK, â'i dawn unigryw i'r diwrnod trwy greu gwisg eiconig wedi'i haddurno â chennin Pedr, blodyn cenedlaethol Cymru.
Gyda chyfanswm o 1,862 o flodau go iawn, ei dyluniad trawiadol oedd â'r nifer mwyaf o flodau ar ffrog.
Gwnaeth Marmalade argraff enfawr ar RuPaul yn ystod ei chyfnod ar dymor 6 gyda'i sgiliau gwnïo perffaith a'i gwisgoedd rhyfeddol.
A nawr, mae ei gwisg wedi torri record, yn swyddogol.
Nifer mwyaf o gacennau i’w haddurno gydag eisin mewn 3 munud (unigol)
Arddangosodd y cystadleuydd Great British Bake Off Michelle Evans-Fecci ei sgiliau pan geisiodd addurno cymaint o gacennau bach â phosibl mewn dim ond tri munud.
Roedd yn rhaid i'r awdur a'r pobydd guro o leiaf 35 i hawlio'r record.
Ac er i ddwy o'i chacennau bach gael eu gwahardd o'r cyfanswm am fod â bylchau yn yr eisin lle'r oedd posibl gweld y gacen, llwyddodd i gwblhau 66 – anhygoel!
Blasus!
Cafodd y cacennau bach eu rhannu ymhlith cast a chriw Guinness World Records Cymru 2025 wedyn - er mawr foddhad iddyn nhw.
Nifer mwyaf o symudiadau troelli gan dîm cyfnewid mewn awr
Gwisgodd grŵp o oedolion gydag anableddau dysgu ac awtistiaeth eu hesgidiau dawnsio er mwyn gweld sawl gwaith y gallen nhw droelli mewn awr.
Aelodau o Arts Care Gofal Celf, sefydliad celfyddydol elusennol yng Nghymru sy'n hyrwyddo arfer cynhwysol dawns gymunedol o ansawdd uchel a wnaeth yr ymgais.
Mae sesiynau’r sefydliad yn rhad ac am ddim, ac roedd y troellwyr i gyd yn rhan o gynllun My Moves.
Cymerodd cyfanswm o 46 o bobl ran yn y ras gyfnewid, gyda phob un yn gwneud eu symudiadau troelli eu hunain.
Ac fe chwalon nhw’r lleiafswm angenrheidiol o 250 gyda chyfanswm o 921.
Nifer mwyaf o ddaliadau ffêr i sefyll ar drapîs sy’n siglo mewn un munud
Er bod yr artist trapîs Eric McGill o Ganada’n wreiddiol, mae bellach yn byw yng Nghymru ac yn falch o ymgymryd â her ar gyfer Dydd Gŵyl Dewi.
Ac roedd yn hyderus wrth osod record byd gyda'i sgiliau 'daliad ffêr i sefyll'.
Gosodwyd isafswm i 10, a dyna'n union y nifer y llwyddodd Eric i'w gyflawni wrth ymarfer.
Ond pan ddaeth y diwrnod mawr, gwthiodd ei hun i symud yn gyflymach, gan lwyddo i gwblhau 11 gyda 10 eiliad i'w sbario, gan stopio bryd hynny gan fod ei goesau wedi blino gormod i gario ymlaen.
Os na allwch chi ddychmygu'r symudiad yma’n union, mae'r trapîs yn siglo’n ôl ac ymlaen tra bod Eric yn sefyll ar y bar.
Mae'n cwympo’n ôl ac yn dal y bar gyda'i draed fel ei fod yn hongian wyneb i waered wrth ei fferau cyn tynnu ei hun i fyny ar ben y bar unwaith eto gan ddefnyddio’i afael a nerth ei gluniau i sefyll.
Mae'n ailadrodd hyn drosodd a throsodd cymaint o weithiau ag y gall.
Daliad trapîs yn hongian o droed i droed am yr amser hiraf (tîm o ddau)
Daeth yr efeilliaid Grace a Clementine Tonkin Wells ynghyd i ymgymryd â her trapîs gyda'i gilydd.
Ar gyfer y symudiad hwn, mae un perfformiwr yn hongian wyneb i waered o'r trapîs wrth ei draed, tra bod yr ail yn sefyll ar wadnau traed y cyntaf, gan gydbwyso heb afael yn rhaffau'r trapîs.
Roedd yn rhaid cyflawni hyn am o leiaf 60 eiliad, ac roedd y chwiorydd yn anelu am tua 2 min 30 eiliad wrth iddyn nhw ymarfer.
Fe ofynnon nhw i feirniad Guinness World Records, Joanne Brent, a oruchwyliodd holl heriau Dydd Gŵyl Dewi, ddweud wrthyn nhw bob tro roedd 30 eiliad wedi pasio.
Ond fe wnaethon nhw’n well nag yr oedden nhw wedi’i feddwl y gallen nhw, gan ddal am 5 munud llawn a sicrhau'r record.
Mae un peth yn sicr - mae'n mynd i fod yn sioe wych, llawn balchder Cymreig!
Bydd Guinness World Records Cymru 2025 yn cael ei ddarlledu ar S4C.
