The world’s shortest competitive bodybuilder, Pratik Mohite (India), has achieved a second Guinness World Records title for the most push ups in one minute (SS).

‘SS’ stands for ‘short stature’, which is one of our impairment classifications. These classifications exist to ensure that people with physical, visual, or intellectual impairments have the chance to attempt records without having to unfairly compete against more able-bodied challengers.

Pratik, who stands at a height of 102 cm (3 ft 4 in), performed 84 push ups within 60 seconds to achieve his new record, smashing the minimum requirement of 50 push ups. His record attempt features in our new Records Weekly series on YouTube, which you can watch below.

Pratik said he put in “a lot of hard work” to prepare for this record attempt.

He works at a gym as a personal trainer and used the spare time between his two daily shifts to practise his push ups.

“I started doing one set of push ups and then raised it to two,” he explained. “Eventually, I got the results.”

For Pratik, the hardest part of achieving this record was maintaining his bodybuilding routine while “stealing time” between work shifts to improve his push-up speed and form.

He ensured he performed his push ups according to Guinness World Records guidelines, which specify that the body must be lowered until at least a 90-degree angle is attained at the elbow, then raised until the arms are straight. The body must also remain straight throughout, with no bending at the waist.

Pratik’s diet primarily consists of chapatis, rice, vegetables, and lentils. “I can't afford to buy a rich diet or supplements at the moment, but I'm glad even my homemade food is aligned with my body improvement,” he said.

After being awarded the title of shortest competitive bodybuilder in 2021 – a record which he took from USA’s Vince Brasco who measures 124.4 cm (4 ft 1 in) – Pratik says it added “an X factor” to his fame.

“It helped me to get my current job as a trainer […] and people respect me and wherever I go people recognize me. People ask for selfies, which feels good.”

I'm really happy to have one more record in my bag.
