BTS have broken so many records this year that, despite being included in our celebrity record breakers recap of the year, they get their very own round-up!

Counting the recent records achieved by V with his Instagram account, the South Korean band has broken a total of 25 Guinness World Records titles that span across music, social media, entertainment awards and cultural prizes.

Even more amazingly, during this year alone BTS have racked up the whopping amount of 13 records.

They also earned a coveted spot in the Guinness World Records 2022 Hall of Fame.

So grab some snacks and let’s recount together the many, many records gathered by the Bangtan Boys in 2021.

Best-selling album in South Korea

As of March 2021, BTS’ seventh studio album Map of the Soul: 7 sold an astounding number of 4,440,818 copies in South Korea.

The record for best-selling album in South Korea was previously reached with Map of the Soul: Persona, the group’s 2019 EP which hit incredible figures in the band's home country and internationally.

Yet another instance of the septet outdoing themselves and beating their previous record!

Most weeks on the US Hot 100 by a K-pop track

The boy-band’s first English track "Dynamite" spent its 32nd week on Billboard’s all-genre Hot 100 chart, and in 2021 achieved the title for most weeks on the US Hot 100 by a K-pop track.

The global hit led the chart for three weeks (5-12 September and 3 October 2020).

It then resided in the top two for seven weeks and followed in the top ten for 13 weeks.

After that, "Dynamite" maintained its position on the chart and remains in the Top 50 since its No.1 debut on 5 September 2020.

Most weeks at No.1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart

Back in 2020, BTS released "Dynamite", which eclipsed Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber’s summer hit "Despacito" as the song with most weeks at No.1.

As of 10 April 2021, the song from the chart-topping South Korean band spent 18 non-consecutive weeks at No.1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart.

Thus, "Dynamite" snatched the crown (and the record title) from Fonsi’s 17-week-No.1 summer hit.

Most streamed act on Spotify (group)

In April 2021, BTS also collected the record for most streamed act on Spotify (group), previously achieved by the British band Coldplay.

At the time of the announcement, BTS' music had been streamed 16.3 billion times on Spotify.

The overall most popular track, "Dynamite", at the time of writing, has been played a staggering amount of 1,888,259,884 times.

No surprise, then, that BTS are listed in the top three of Spotify's world most streamed artists of 2021.

Most Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards won by a music group

In March 2021, the South Korean powerhouse collected the record for most Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards won by a music group

During the event, the band gathered a total number of five wins.

BTS share this record with Fifth Harmony (USA), who collected their fifth award at the 31st edition of the event in 2018.

Butter: The Round-Up

A special mention goes to "Butter", BTS’ most recent success that single-handedly seized five records right after the first hours of its release.

The record titles broken by "Butter" are as follows:

  • Most streamed track on Spotify in the first 24 hours (11,042,335 streams on the day of its release)
  • Most viewers for the premiere of a music video on YouTube (3,900,000 views)
  • Most viewers for the premiere of a video on YouTube (3,900,000 views)
  • Most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group: it was viewed 108,200,000 times, obliterating the previous figure (101,100,000) achieved with their 2020 disco-pop single "Dynamite".
  • Most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours (108,200,000 views)

A release that went smooth like butter indeed!

But BTS' records are certainly not limited to music.

After breaking records in 2019 for the most Twitter engagements for a music group (422,228 total number) and fastest time to reach one million followers on TikTok (a little over three hours), in 2021 the septet has taken Instagram by storm.

Most followers on Instagram for a music group

Having racked up the outstanding number of 40,220,226 devoted followers, BTS are the most followed group on Instagram as of 22 April 2021.

The crown passed from the British band One Direction to the Bangtan Boys, as it often does when a bands raise to fame or join the platform.

On this occasion, BTS' ARMY raised their collective voice to let the world know that, after taking over Twitter and TikTok, the septet could count on a colossal following on Instagram as well.

One thing is certain: BTS are collecting successes at every turn.

At Guinness World Records HQ, not one month of 2021 went by without mentioning BTS at least once.

We are eager to see how many records they will break in 2022!
