My name is Maynard Williams and I hold the world record title for the oldest male to perform an
0:12
abdominal plank. Well last year I entered the competition at my local gym and I won it with a
0:21
time of just over seven minutes. So the women's planking competition against competitive all ages
0:26
gave me a real buzz. Following the competition I began to wonder what sort of
0:30
planting times people of my age were doing in terms of world records. I then
0:35
looked at Guinness World Records YouTube videos and their website. My old title
0:40
was still open with no title holder so that's the title I set my sights on. I
0:46
trained intensively for about a six-month period. This training involved I enrolled plank specific training like long planks
0:54
replete of shorter planks and weighted planks. I also did general upper and lower body resistance training
1:02
and I did cardio training which was mainly road running, something I usually do
1:07
In the final few days leading up to the record attempt, I experienced the usual self-doubts
1:12
that I frequently get before running events. However on the actual day I was relaxed and confident Well being a distance brother I used to pushing myself hard both mentally and physically
1:25
Doing so helps to build mental toughness and we learn about our true capabilities
1:31
And those capabilities are far greater than what most of us believe
1:37
The words of encouragement, cheers and clapping from my small group, especially over the last
1:42
few minutes, definitely helped. If you've made it this far, you can do another few minutes
1:46
We can. Well done. Noah's thrilled to maintain the plank for just over half an hour
1:51
Come on. How are we going? Hey, stop, Sonia. You know, it's been said that old age ain't no place for sissies
2:05
The aging process should be tackled head on with courage and determination
2:09
And what better way to do that than increasing our fitness and strength through exercise
2:13
and taking on physical challenges. I was 78 years and 135 days old and I held the
2:21
plank for just over 31 minutes. Well done Dad, well done, proud of you
2:27
Thank you Gerry, thanks so much. I hope that was okay. That was great, you did well
