The Brief

With the Covid-19 pandemic closing pubs across the UK and forcing Brits to stay home, Crowdfunder wanted to unite socially isolated punters to come together online. They wanted to raise funds for the Coronavirus Appeal, a cause that supports key workers who risk their lives on the front line every day.

The Solution

Crowdfunder UK worked with GWR to create its very own online pub night, where members of the public would be able to enjoy a virtual pint. Double Chortle winner and creator of The Covid Arms, Kiri Pritchard Mclean hosted the virtual quiz, joined by some of the biggest names in UK comedy including Russell Howard, Jason Manford , Lucy Beaumont, Marcus Brigstocke, Jenny Ryan and Nish Kumar.

6,321 people joined the event online; smashing the record title. As part of the event, the audience were treated to a live adjudication and certificate presentation by their Official Adjudicator.

We set up the event to celebrate the incredible community spirit and humour which sits at the heart of the British public. By bringing back the great British tradition of sharing a pint, we were able to show our support and solidarity, not only for local businesses but for the emergency services who are working so hard to keep us all safe. We’re delighted to have raised so much money through this initiative and securing a Guinness World Records™ title in the process certainly added some extra excitement on the night.
