A total of 14 records on games such as Fortnite and Mario Kart have been broken at Insomnia63 gaming festival.
Insomnia63, held at the NEC in Birmingham, is the largest gaming event in the UK, and brings together people of all ages and genres for an epic weekend of gaming.
Over the four-day event from 24-27 August a staggering 14 records were broken at Guinness World Records' GWR Live! stand, establishing six brand new record-holders (two individuals and two pairs) in Fortnite, Mario Kart, Rocket League and TrackmaniaTurbo.
The four records up for grabs were:
Three records were broken on the first day of the event.
For Rocket League, Ben Holt (UK) managed an impressive 1 minute 31.63 seconds.
Over on the Insomnia Nerds and Noobs stage we also had JMC & DangThatsALongName VS DAGames & Dawko attempted the Trackmania Turbo record, but were unsuccessful despite their best efforts.
Meanwhile Isaac Donald and Jack Chorley (both UK) managed to collect 20 coins between them to secure the Mario Kart record title while Dan Chaney and Tom Chaplin (both UK) sped round the Trackmania Turbo race track in 1 minute 7.55 seconds.
However both record-breaking achievements on Mario Kart and Trackmania Turbo were broken less than 24 hours later.
Brothers Stuart Lilley and Carl Lilley (both UK) edged in to clinch the Mario Kart title by collecting 22 coins before Hari Lal and Oliver Lord (both UK) took over the Trackmania Turbo title, beating the previous time with a mere by a mere 0.27 seconds!
The second day also saw the first successful Fortnite attempt, achieved by Ryan Horsewood (UK) who managed to build his three-storey fort in 56.31 seconds.
Back at Nerds and Noobs, Xavier (aka former WWE star turned gamer Austin Creed) and Grant Hinds battled it out for our Fortnite record on the main stage, but unfortunately both were unsuccessful, allowing Ryan to retain his title.
However it wasn’t all bad for Xavier, as he received a record title certificate on stage for the Most subscribed celebrity videogames channel for his channel “UpUpDownDown”.
Day three was a flurry of record-breaking at the GWR Live, with six new records broken!
Chloe Dalrymple and Christopher Davies (both UK) sped around the Trackmania Turbo race track to set a new record of 1 minute 5.48 seconds, but this was soon broken again by Thomas Hall and Alex Dunsmore (both UK), with 1 minute 0.78 seconds.
The Fortnite record was then smashed by Alex Fern Newby (UK), who completed the fort in 50.12 seconds.
Alex Dunsmore then broke his second record of the day when he teamed up with friend James Zahra (UK), in to collect 24 coins in Mario Kart.
However, they weren’t solo record holders for long, as Oliver Heather and Jake Garner (both UK) matched the record shortly after.
Pro Gamers Syndicate and Karl also attempted the Mario Kart record at the main stage, but were unsuccessful with 18 coins.
Rocket League was the next title to be broken, with a time of 1 minute 22.32 seconds, achieved by Harvey Morris Daws (UK).
During the fourth and final day there were two more successful record attempts, bringing the total for the event to a whopping 14.
The Mario Kart record of 24 coins was matched again by Sam Banks and Joe Brown (both UK), meaning three pairs held the title. But this didn't last long when Findlay Gardner and Michael Lawrence (both UK) gethered 26.
After four days of record breaking it means the following record holders are:
Fastest completion of the Guinness World Records Trackmania Turbo race track in double driver smash mode - 1 minute 0.78 seconds, achieved by Thomas Hall and Alex Dunsmore (both UK).
Fastest time to build a three story wooden fort in Fortnite: Battle Royale solo Playground mode (Console version) – 50.12 seconds, achieved by Alex Fern Newby (UK)
Fastest time to complete the Guinness World Records Rocket League training time trial - 1 minute 22.32 seconds, achieved by Harvey Morris Daws (UK).
Most coins collected in one minute in a game of coin runners on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (team of two) - 26 coins, achieved by Findlay Gardner and Michael Lawrence (both UK)
