Mithali Raj (India) scored a combined total of 10,868 career runs in Test matches (699 runs in 2002–21), One-Day Internationals (ODI; 7,805 runs in 1999–2022) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20I; 2,364 runs in 2006–19) between 1999 and 2022. The prolific batter, who announced her retirement on 8 June 2022, is the leading run-scorer in women’s ODIs.

England’s Charlotte Edwards (5,992 runs in 1997–2016), Jamaica’s West Indies batter Stafanie Taylor (5,298 runs in 2008–22) and New Zealand’s Suzie Bates (5,045 runs in 2006–22) are the only other female cricketers to pass 5,000 ODI runs.

On 3 July 2021, during an ODI against England, Raj scored the 12 runs she needed to move ahead of Charlotte Edwards’ tally of 10,273 international runs (1,676 in Tests, 5,992 in ODIs and 2,605 in T20Is). Remarkably, the leading international run-scorers in the men’s and women’s game, Sachin Tendulkar (34,357 runs) and Raj, both made their international debuts at the age of 16 years 205 days: Tendulkar (b. 24 April 1973) in 1989, Raj (b. 3 December 1982) in 1999.

The 39-year-old right-hander played 12 Tests (average: 43.68 runs per innings), 232 ODIs (50.68) and 89 T20Is (37.52), scoring a combined total of 85 50-plus scores and eight hundreds (seven in ODIs) in those 333 matches. As of 10 June 2022, Raj’s ODI career span of 22 years 274 days was the longest of any player, male or female.
