Youngest Test match captain (male)

Rashid Khan (b. 20 September 1998) was 20 years 350 days old when he captained Afghanistan in a one-off Test match against Bangladesh at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram (Chittagong), Bangladesh, starting on 5 September 2019.

Khan was appointed captain of Afghanistan in all three formats of the game after the team’s disappointing 2019 World Cup campaign, with the one-off Test against Bangladesh the finger-spinner’s first assignment.

Khan got his reign as captain up and running with a 61-ball, first-innings 51 – his maiden Test half-century – and 11 wickets in the match: 5 for 55 in the hosts’ first innings and 6 for 49 in the second. Afghanistan won the rain-affected match by 224 runs, with Bangladesh dismissed for 173 in their second innings in pursuit of 398.

Tatenda Taibu (b. 14 May 1983) was 20 years 358 days old – eight days older than Khan was on 5 September 2019 – when the wicket-keeper/batsman captained Zimbabwe against Sri Lanka in Harare, Zimbabwe, on 6 May 2004.
