                        When nominations for the 2012 Oscars were announced on 10 January 2013, nine-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis (born 28 August 2003) became the youngest actress ever to receive an Academy Award nomination, making the short list of the Best Leading Actress category for her performance in Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012).
Wallis was only five years old when she auditioned for the film, and six when she played the leading role.
