Carlos Alcaraz (Spain, b. 5 May 2003) was 22 years 272 days old when he won the Australian Open singles title at Melbourne Park’s Rod Laver Arena on 1 February 2026. In defeating Novak Djokovic 2–6, 6–2, 6–3, 7–5 in the final of the “Happy Slam”, Alcaraz claimed the record for the youngest of nine men – excluding wheelchair tennis players – to win each of the four Grand Slam singles tournaments. His seven titles to date have come at the US Open (2022 and 2025), Wimbledon (2023–24), the French Open (2024–25) and the Australian Open (2026).
The nine men who have achieved a singles “Career Grand Slam” are: Fred Perry (1935), Don Budge (1938), Rod Laver (1962 and 1969), Roy Emerson (1964 and 1967), Andre Agassi (1999), Roger Federer (2009), Rafael Nadal (2010 and 2022), Novak Djokovic (2016, 2021 and 2023) and Carlos Alcaraz (2026). A further three men in wheelchair singles (Shingo Kunieda in 2022, Alfie Hewett in 2024 and Tokito Oda in 2025) and two in quad singles (Dylan Alcott in 2019 and 2021 and Niels Vink in 2026) have completed the set.
Before the 2026 Australian Open, American John “Don” Budge (b. 13 June 1915) had been the youngest man to complete a “Career Grand Slam” in singles competition, winning the French Open on 11 June 1938 – 30 years before the start of the open era – at the age of 22 years 363 days. It was to be the fourth of Budge’s six major singles triumphs, all in 1937–38.
Out of the six men who ticked off a singles “Career Grand Slam” in the open era (since 1968), Alcaraz superseded compatriot Rafael Nadal (b. 3 June 1986), who was watching the final in the stands on Rod Laver Arena as his record of 24 years 102 days (on winning the 2010 US Open) was dismantled right before his eyes by the 22-year-old from Murcia.
At 19 years 121 days old, Japan’s Tokito Oda (b. 8 May 2006) completed his own “Career Grand Slam” – and a “Career Golden Slam”, after Paralympic gold in 2024 – in wheelchair singles at the US Open on 6 September 2025. Remarkably, Oda was three years 151 days younger than Alcaraz at the time both men completed their set of four majors.
