According to the paper "A Century of Trends in Adult Human Height" published in the journal eLife on 26 July 2016, the tallest men were born in the last part of the 20th century in the Netherlands, and are now exceeding 182.5 cm (5 ft 11.85 in) on average. The tallest women live in Latvia and reach an average height in excess of 168 cm (5 ft 6.14 in).

The study, which re-analysed 1,472 population-based studies, with measurement of height on more than 18.6 million participants to estimate mean height for people born between 1896 and 1996 in 200 countries, was conducted by the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration, a group of 800 scientists, in association with the World Health Organization.
